UGC NET Exam 2025

The UGC NET 2025, or University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test, is a national-level entrance exam conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on behalf of the UGC. It determines the eligibility of Indian candidates for the role of Assistant Professor and/or for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) in Indian universities and colleges. Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification

  • Candidates must have a Master’s degree or equivalent from a UGC-recognized university.

  • Minimum marks required:

    • General/Unreserved: 55%

    • OBC (NCL)/SC/ST/PwD/Third Gender: 50%

  • Final-year PG students may also apply provisionally.

Age Limit

  • JRF: Not more than 30 years as of the exam date (age relaxation applicable).

  • Assistant Professor: No upper age limit.

Relaxation

  • Age relaxation up to 5 years for OBC (NCL)/SC/ST/PwD/female/transgender candidates.

  • Candidates with research experience or armed forces service are also eligible for relaxation.

Cutoff Criteria

  • The top 6% of candidates from each subject (meeting minimum marks) are declared NET qualified.
